You are correct there is no treatment for Dengue other than copious fluids and pain killers for the bone pain.

My husband contracted Dengue in Bali last May. When we returned home our GP (after consultation with the infectious diseases specialist) said that he would only be hospitalized if he was contagious.

Dengue can only be spread by the Aedes Aegypti mozzie after it has 'bitten' someone who was infected with Dengue. As that particular mozzie isn't found in Melbourne my husband was not considered contagious.

Perhaps BIMC wants to isolate him so if he got 'bit' by a mozzie he would not further infect someone else.

Hope your brother gets better soon :-) My husband was laid flat out for two weeks.
