Its beautiful, quiet, laidback and the perfect place to wet your feet.

On my first trip, we found the "Lonely Planet Guide to Bali" book invaluable, there is a lot of practical information in this book to assist you with your first trip.

We booked 2 nights at the beginning of our trip and had no trouble finding homestays, everyone is so friendly and helpful and if they are full they will recommend another place to try. Probably not quite what you are seeking, however the "experience" of staying with a local family is invaluable and should be tried at least once.

People are also very happy to show you a room, so choosing a place to stay will be easy.

There are 100's of accommodations options ranging from cheap to expensive, just depends on what comfort level you require.

As a starting point, somewhere on the beach would be perfect.
