I decided not to get the Cidomo (horse and cart) to The Beach House as i knew it wasnt too far about 5oo m or so but this turned out to be a harder walk than i thought with the skinny road separating the restaurants /hotels on one side and beach/beach bars and open restaurants on the other side because the road was cobbled and my wheely case wasnt liking it at all especially as we had to keep dodging the ever so slow cidomos and people on push bikes but got there in the end after a few stops.

As I looked out at the very happy polite tourists walking by in their original designer beach wear (no Bali rip offs here) I thought am i in the middle of some type of sports camp or aerobics convention?

Why is nobody speaking English except the locals?

I looked at me and looked at them and for the first time in my life I was the odd one out, I only weight 87 kilos with a 34+ inch waist and i know i have a bit of a podge and put that down to age and gravity taking over but seriously i was the fattest person i could see. I actually become a bit obsessed with this as time went on and have a theory!lol

Checked in the Beach house but the room wasnt quite ready and many walk ins were being turned away because it was full (glad I booked well ahead)

It was a bit odd as the hotel was full and the beautiful but small pool area was empty? all these Europeans and not even a pool lounge being used let alone hogged?just neatly folded towels placed at the foot of each waiting for a guest.

While waiting for the room we walked across the skinny road to the hotels restaurant just above the beach and had a few Bintangs with some food. as it happens the Beach house restaurant ended up being the most popular one on the island so it was good for us because we always got a table of choice by booking early.

went back to reception and our luggage had already been taken to the room.

Got to the room which was quite close to the pool area and was so surprised at just how good the standard room was,we were expecting far less for our $74Au a night,it just keeps getting better :)

The Theory:

Gili Trawangan is a world famous scuba dive and snorkeling island

most of the people are there to dive Surf and snorkel lots and lots.

Healthy toned people dive, surf and snorkel a lot, unfit and podgy people do not.

Gili Trawangan is a long long way from Europe unlike Bali for Aussies.

Unfit podgy people would not attempt the very long uncomfortable flight from Europe to do something that involved lots of exercise including walking and push bike riding the main and sometimes only mode of getting around.

If this theory is wrong then Mc Donalds has won in Australia and we have become a nation of people super sized! i am now on a serious health kick as these Europeans including the Brits must know something that we dont!
