I do get what you are saying, from experience, but maybe you can look at it this way?....
Walking a reasonable distance at a "holiday" pace is not that much of a punishment, is it? To me, a holiday starts at the moment you leave your home. Ok, Getting to an airport in time to catch your flight needs some sort of time management.
I live all the way in the Netherlands, so I do know how a long flight can effect you.
And not to offend travellers with children, getting through the whole VOA experience, can be irritating (to say it mildly).
But.... when you land at Denpasar airport your holiday actually starts there and then.
My point is choosing to take a taxi instead of walking is a personal choice, isn't it? What's the rush? Your room will still be there, as well as all the shops and restaurants. And if you don't get to go to do all of it this time, you can do it next time.
I assume you get to go to Bali more often than people from Europe do, considering costs and the long time travelling.
To wrap it up, all I want to say is; enjoy and focus on the nice things, so when you get back home, remember the positive things. Being able to go on a holiday abroad still is a luxury in life for many!
Enjoy your stay :-)
