You'll lose way too much money if you convert cash before you leave home. I'm not sure what UK money exchange is like, but in Australia you get horrid rates. If you really want to, then buy your US$50 before leaving home, but you don't need to. You'll probably pay about the same if you just pay it in £ when you get there.
You'll have no trouble exchanging £ in Sanur. Don't waste your money on travelers cheques or exchanging into rupiah before leaving home. Just be very observant and aware when exchanging cash (applies for travelers cheques anyway) and make sure you are the last one to count and touch the cash before the final exchange takes place.
Alternately, ATMs are everywhere. Depending on the fees your bank charges, this may be an option worth looking into as it saves you carrying any large amount of cash.
