I don't use my card for credit transactions in Bali but have been using it in ATMs since 2003 without incident.
I have, however, had a card swallowed by an ATM not 500m from my home when the machine shut down for 'maintenance' halfway through my transaction.
I have also had a card skimmed at home as well. Luckily the bank caught it and no money was taken from my account before they canceled the card.
Using ATMs can be hit and miss no matter where you are in the world.
