you can do 2/3 night tours (I booked when in Bai through a tour agent in Sanur main street), fairly easy way to do it, they organise flights, hotel pick up and an itinerary that shows you some of the best parts of Lombok. Not exactly cheap but a treat I gave myself for my birthday as I was travelling solo.

As I was the only person on the tour (my own tour guide as well as a driver very spoilt) I was able to change some of the places I went to, and had a wonderful birthday chilling on the beach at Gilli Nangu, a beautiful little island just past Lembar, which is the main ferry port I think.

The Gili Islands are nice to visit, Gilli Air is so peaceful, your transport around the island is by horse cart.

Lombok certainly has a different feel to it than Bali, more mosques than hindu temples, and I found the people more serious there, didn't smile as much in Bali, more presence of local men than women on the street, once you got used to it as a solo it was OK.

Lombok is worth going to for the experience.
