First trip to Bali was in 1978, stayed in Sanur as not much anywhere else then. Anyone remember the 3 wheel bemos of those days, and the rusty old pushbikes you could hire? Cost $AU10 for a Bali License to ride a motorbike, you had to show you could ride in a circle without falling off (if you did you just kept trying till you managed). Had to go through Denpassar to reach Kuta, no bypass roads then. Once you reached Kuta there were beach massages, WOW!!! What was the name of the shop you could get boardies at with velcro, bought up big.
Been back nearly every year since then so have clocked up a few trips, and seen enormous changes to every aspect of Bali, not all for the better. Have been staying in Kuta, Legian, Tuban and Seminyak at all sorts of places.
Went in May, and returning again in September for a dose of sun after Perths winter months. As the years have no doubt made us grow a little older and maybe slowed down a tad, wondering if Sanur would be the way to go. I keep reading about how quiet, slow and completely relaxed everyone is over that side. Wont ride a motorbike in Kuta side anymore, appreciate my knees too much (Im the wifey on the back) and want to keep them in good working order, not wiped off by a taxi. We can always go over the other side to visit friends, have a night out in Garlic Lane etc. Lets have your thoughts on this.
