My kids have had so many breaks that we have accident insurance. I am surprised that it is only 4 weeks as I think that 6 weeks is the norm.
my kids have had to travel with fibrecasts on their broken arms a number of times. The cast aways stopped at the elbow - I am not sure if the elbow is also in plaster with you? We have had to cut the cast off ourselves twice but it really was ok as they end up quite roomy by the time they have to come off.
Only thing is, when they come off the wrists are always quite fragile as they have lost their strength. Depending on how your child feels you might be better off to leave the cast on as they can do pretty much everything with it on
