My husband got sick 4 days before we returned home on the 16th May. He refused to see a Dr in Bali or go to the hospital. I managed to get him a Dr's appointment the day after we returned and was sent for bloods which were sent to Far North Queensland as that is where the tropical testing centre is. His symptoms are Dengue like and we were told it was highly likely it was. Then it was ruled out and it's now possible 'Chickugunga' same mozzie and same symptoms but not Dengue... in other words "same sh*t, different bucket" This is still not confirmed as the pathology lab still haven't had the results from FNQ.
After more bloods this week at least his white blood cell and liver function test levels are back to normal (he will celebrate this with a VB tonight :-) However, the Dr did say if it ain't Chickugunga then he will be retested for Dengue as apparently it doesn't always show up at first. We need to know because he gets it again it could be far more serious.
Dr also said he went to a conference last year and they are working on a prevention drug, but in reality this is about 4 years away.
We used the local OFF in a spray can day and night. I got bit to shreds and he only had a couple of bites... but they were grand-uns.
