about taking anything long as Bali swelters morning, noon and night......even up in Ubud.

Very casual is the order of the day in about 99% of Balinese restaurants and even then, the other 1% do not require anything close to formal, just dress shorts and sandals/deck pumps has got me into the very best of restaurants all over Bali (I'm a bloke in case you hadn't gathered) and not once have I ever felt out of place.
I know you girls like to dress up a bit, so I'll leave that up to you, but don't bother wearing anything long.

and don't even think about wearing high heels as you'll break an ankle eventually.

I know in Thailand it can get a bit cool at night sometimes, especially in the north, but that's just not the case in Bali.
Everytime I've been there, regardless of the time of year, I've roasted even during the night.

The exception to all of this is if you KNOW pre-holiday that you're going to an enclosed aircon restaurant, and they are few and far between.

Leaving your fancy clothes in your wardrobe at home will also mean more room in your suitcases for bringing stuff home.

Hope you have a good one.
