you have obviously been quoted by somebody who doesnt want to do the job or cant do the job. Depending on what type of shoes they are most shanks can be replaced. There are less and less shoes around now that do have a replaceable internal shank so possibly the person who quoted has never had to repalce one. The only time shank replacement becomes expensive is if the sole has to be replaced as well. If you could let me know the brand and style of the shoe it would give me a better idea
