I just got back on friday.
As you know, huge numbers of dogs have been slaughtered. And it shows because there is nothing like the numbers of dogs in Bali that there used to be.
We didn't go to all the areas you'll be travelling to but we visited Lovina, Kintamani area, Bedugal, Candi Dasa, Kuta etc and were based a couple of kms outside of Ubud central. Hardly saw any dogs.
Many street dogs are used to being hurt by humans and while i'm not saying it would work every time, so far I've found the best defence when i've felt threatened by dogs in SE Asia is to face the dogs and then slowly bend down and pretend to pick something off the ground. The dogs have always run away.
