a very long time ago one of the forumites (Baliku)husband had some sort of accident & it was discussed extensively here at the time.I think this would have been about 5 years ago.I can't recall if he fell or tripped over the footpath or what happened & but he was injured & needed medical treatment.I think this incident happened in the very late afternoon & he had drunk one beer at lunch time.
I can't remember all of the details just that the medical claim was denied because the insurance company used their exclusion clause of "Affected by alcohol or under the influence of alcohol"(or wording something like that) even though he had drunk one beer several hours before.
I expect that many people would think when reading these sort of clauses in the fine print of their travel insurance documents that they would expect it meant that if you are drunk & have significantly higher than a zero blood alcohol reading as would probably be the case for an adult man drinking 1 beer around 4 hours before.I also think many would consider this sort of clause is just a cop out if you have only had 1 alcoholic drink several hours & are denied a medical claim.
It seems that travel insurance companies have different ideas or interpretation than most people though. It seems that the legal interpretation can vary as well.I am pretty sure that all travel insurance policies have some sort of clauses re alcohol it might be worthwhile to check the wording to see if having 1 drink would affect a claim being denied.
