Hi, I have just returned from Gili and to be honest you could book a place on arrival, once you get off the boat there will be people waiting for you to sell you a room. There are heaps of places that are fairly cheap. I guess it depends what you are after. I had friends pay 250,000 rupiah a night for a standard room and for something with air con and hot water around 350,000 rupiah a night. Have a look on asia rooms and agoda.
In regards to the boat, i went with eka jaya from kuta by car to padang bai and fast boat to gil, return from 950,000 rupiah (this was a special for nyepi) i think the standard price is about 1,000,000.00 - best to book in bali.
