Over the last 20 years I have tried all manner of tipping at the hotel. Now I usually give A$20 at the beginning or end, sometimes both. Never leave money in the room though. One thing that does puzzle me, if you give the tip to the head butler, do they distribute it to all the people who look after you, or keep it all themselves. Over a 2 week period we might have 3 or 4 different butlers and 3 or 4 different housemaids.
