not all. However I would avoid using Novotel drivers if you can as the cost will be higher in itself. The best way to get around is to rent a scooter if you are happy with your son being on one. The roads around Kuta are very quiet it is nothing like it's namesake on Bali. I would avoid driving up the hill to Ashtari, west of Kuta, if you are inexperienced riders though as it is very steep.
I disagree also with one poster that Senggigi is the place to be. I much prefer Kuta, is quieter and the best beaches in Lombok are in the area, like Mawun, Segare & Tanjung Aan.
Novotel is a beautiful hotel I am sure you will love it there.
