VIP services or related issues are actually mentioned more on this forum by the anti brigade than by those who believe that you can spend your money as you wish.
There are many reasons for people wanting to transit through arrivals procedures quickly, and you have mentioned some new ones.
Good on you for relating your experience and for running the risk of copping a serve for doing so.
