Dogs i've seen on properties in Nth Queensland were very fine rat-catchers. Quite amazing.
Cobras are the rats natural predator, and one cobra can consume a lot of rats. But these days cobras get killed. Better wildlife protection laws needed for the cobra, and let the old farmers educate the young ones on the value of the cobra in farming :)
