My kids love Bali and one of my biggest joys in life is when my computer crazy son begs us to take him back to places like Amed where we had no TV.
One thing that truly effected my son when he was about 11 years old was when we first took him to Amed and drove up the coast road. It is a beautiful trip but you see a very poor side of Bali along that road, my son had to write an essay at school that year about a profound thing that had happened to him and he wrote about the drive up to Amed he was shocked that people could be so poor and still be so happy. What a wonderful lesson to learn so young.
Kids had a ball at the Bali Zoo they got to feed the lions and pick up baby animals.
We did a mask painting lesson at the art museum in Ubud amazing experience and the kids were so proud of how well theirs turned out! boys went back and did wood carving.
Gunung Kawi Royal Monument pretty cool in their eyes.
The bird markets at Denpasar a true culture shock!!
Tirtagangga swimming in ancient stone royal pools.
Stay somewhere like Alam Indah a true Bali experience.
As mentioned the turtle conservation centre near Sanur hand feed these amazing huge turtles.
For me I think the best experiences I can give my children is the chance to get out of the tourist traps and meet the locals, also staying in quirky little hotels without a TV in Bali teaches them a lot about so many things.
Cheers Deb.
