having an Indonesian husband who can get locals price:)
In Indonesia, if we go shopping for anything, I stay out of sight. Or scope what I want and then walk off, give the secret signal, and then husband wanders in and buys it. This goes for everything from white goods to food at the market.

The price goes up if a westerner is involved, even when they know it is for a good cause, or that husband is a local.

BUT, even at tourist prices, many things are cheaper to buy there. Plus it helps the economy.
