The other option is to go to Australia Post and get enough $US for the hotel bill. You have to change a minimum of $200 however there are no fees. You do get a slightly lower exchange rate to accomodate the fees though but is a much better way to do it. This avoids the hotel converting AUS$ to rupiah and then to US$ which would have to be a financial benefit to them.
I could be wrong but I am interested to hear other people's opinions.
