But the vet has to do 3 shots about 2 weeks apart. Apparently this condition is not a contagious but they are born with it, and it is in the blood line of many Balinese dogs. One of ours had it and she is now a very long haired (it's all over the house) black Kintamani dog. It may be harder to treat in an older dog but given to the few pups that we've had treated they've had success, although he said that it can come back when they are stressed, or their immune system is low so street dogs are not good candidates, your loved one should be a good candidate. BAWA administered it with the stray pups, our vet did ours
