Hi everyone,

This is just a curtouHi everyone,

This is just a courtesy message.

I arrived back from Bali last Sunday after 10 lovely days (all be it for the tremor we felt on the Saturday, could have gone without that). When departing Bali and after our luggage had gone through the scanner, the security tried to say that I could not take my half bottle of vodka as it was unsealed. I very quickly advised him that it was luggage that was being checked in (not carry on luggage) and that I could indeed take the vodka, unsealed or not. He didn't argue with me and then proceeded to tell me that I had to get my bag wrapped. I of course did not.

For those of you who would probably say, 'OK you take the bottle then', you do not have to. As long as it is in your luggage that you are having checked in, you are certainly allowed to take it on the plane, although you may have to declare it if you are buying your 2 litre allowance upon arriving at the airport in Australia. It was just a nice try for him to score himself a free bottle of alcohol, and has probably worked on other people.

I suppose they will try anything and if they can get away with someone unexpecting and not too sure of the rules and regulations, or just too scared to argue the case. He knew he was wrong that is why he didn't argue the point with me. It is no different to bartering with the ladies/men in the markets. They might start at 250,000rp for something they would sell for 40,000rp because they know some people just won't barter and it is bonus for them.

As I said, just a courtesy message :-)

Suz
