While in Bali in June hubby and I were wandering down the Tuban beach path past the Santika heading for dinner at the Pantai restaurant.
We just arrived there when the saddest little dog you have ever seen came staggering over the sand. It was still quite young, totally bald, covered in bleeding weeping sores and very thin.
I was so upset there was no way i was staying for dinner and told hubby i was going back to our hotel for the phone number for BAWA that i had in my bag. What upset me as well was how all the westerners were ignoring this poor suffering creature. One little girl cried out in horror and her mother told her to look the other way and finish your dinner. I rang BAWA then went back to the beach but the dog had dissappeared. We went back first thing the next morning and caught it and sat with it for three hours until BAWA could come and pick it up. They told me their policy was to normally leave them there after treating them but some of the stall holders at the Dynasty had been throwing rocks at it and we also offered to give them a large donation to take it away. I know a lot of people haven't heard of BAWA but I just couldn't understand how so many people could ignore such a suffering creature.
