in your hair. Both my sister & I had cane mite bites on a trip in 1997 & yes they itched like crazy causing us to scratch our legs & arms raw. We both had the welts but sister's were much worse than mine, and they are caused by the mite "migrating" under your skin when you scratch (or so we were told). We went to a chemist in Bali who gave us antihistimine tablets and Phenergan cream to apply & the itching, burning & welts subsided within a few days.
I was so paranoid afterwards that on return trips I would carry a sarong in my bag everywhere I went to put on any cane chairs I sat on. What I wasn't prepared for on a trip in 2000 was another bout of bites which I got on my arms only. Couldn't figure out why I had them only on my elbows & underneath my forearms. Had to laugh when we figured out that it was from leaning on the cane-edged bar at our favourite watering hole!!
