help cutting down the costs by taking a very light weight bag instead of a heavy suitcase, or buy a Bali bag over in Bali, made of material, weigh next to nothing. Line the bag with plastic bags in case it rains, tie the handles together for strength, put one lock on the long across the top zip, seal other end zips with superglue.
You can of course wear clothes that have lots of pockets fill them up and then when you get seated on the plane transfer all that stuff into your hand luggage. Remember things like camera, phone, tickets, i-pod all can hang around you neck til boarding.
