I was thinking about you when I flew to London last month. While sitting at the Boarding gate for Singapore Airlines three of the checking in staff wheeled the wheelchair people down. An elderly lady asked could they take her into Duty free and she was told (nicely) that they are not allowed to. She said could she go in by herself (out came two folding sticks in her handbag)and was told she could but she would have to take her on board with her. Poor old thing, I asked the young girl if it was all right with her I could look after her on board for her so that she could go into Duty Free. All agreed and off she went. So it looks like it is all airline policy that they can't take you shopping.
