on what you want to do.
Candi dasa takes about 2 - 3 hours from Kuta depending on traffic, ceremonies, where you stop etc.
Essentially both are fishing villages. Candi Das is on the man road therefore during travel time (ie morning and evening) road is busy so if you can get a room furthest from the road thats better. Accommodation varies form simple guesthouses to overthe top villas. There are ample restaurants of variying quality and a small supermarket. Nearby is Tenganan (Bali Aga Village), rice paddy walks, and the white beach (about 15 mins drive) do go adn see this as koreans have now bought it and it is about to be devloped!) Candi Dasa has no true beach now (long story) but you cna do snorkelling etc adn there are pools around.
Amed is developing quickly and I don't necessarily see that as a positive- it is a much bigger area than even 3 years ago and has far more luxury villas and hotels than is good for it. restaurants are also springin up everywhere. snorkelling again is available.
About 1/2 hour from Amed is Tirtagganga
