The DS does not need to be chipped as such. There is a special cartridge which a micro sd card fits into. They load the sd card with anywhere from 30 - 80 games. This then fits into your ds. The theory is that you can then go to the internet and load new games onto the sd card when you want. These cartridges are called R4 or Edge. You have to ask for them at the counter as they always seem to be kept out of sight. There are also multi game cartridges kept in full sight which appear to be in a CD case but contain a cartridge. They can have anywhere up to 157 games - depends on the size of the games.
Available from Discovery in a shop called Toyspot (I think)
