There are not rips as such but heavy under currants that you do not see until you are in the water. We have been many times to Bali and in June with our cousins (First time for them) and he is Qld surf life saver trainer of the year this year at Kurrwa on the Gold Coast and he went out swimming and said just this that there are heavy under currants. He did say that the currants were any where from about fifty to one hundreds meters out. I think you will be safe.
