My experience is that the beaches along Tuban, Kuta, Legian and Seminyak are great for long walks, taking in the scenery, chatting to the locals etc etc, but you will spend more time in the pools at your resort than you will in the ocean.
Whether it be the cleanliness of the water, debris, rips ( and they are ever present) - your call; but I know what I prefer.
You will still have a wonderful time !
