I got very lucky and got a July $99 return, October $160 return and March $130 return. Saying that I could have got all of them for $99 but didn't think about booking all of them at once. I was running around the office too excited.
My parents paid $400 return in August for them only to announce a second plane and fares were half the price. They saw they them start at $300 and increase daily.
I start work at 7.30am so I seem to get the jump on the usual 8.30am starters by the time word gets around. I also check the day after the current sale ends. I have a mailing list of friends I email when the special starts, we all inform each other.
The next sale i'm waiting for is May/June 2010 or a rumoured new Perth-Phuket route.
With November, February a bit quieter maybe they will release more seats cheap now with 2 planes to fill up.
If your happy with the current price go for it. Unless you know someone with inside information at Air Asia it's just a guess.
Also the cheap fares tend to be there before they change their special banner. Most of the time when everyone knows about it the sale is good as over.
