Well I have to admit I was very silly with this one. But what happened was that for several weeks we had been trying to get in contact with the Anika Cooking school to book. No response after about 4 emails so then went on line and found I could book through a very well known Bali tour company anyway they said that they needed me to fax over my credit card details including the 3 numbers on the back plus a copy of my passport to secure the booking. I refused to do this but was happy to pay for the class if they could let me pay by Pay Pal or some secure way of doing the payment. But no they didn't want me to pay for the class but said I could pay Anika on the day but they needed the credit card details to hold the booking. They said they kept the credit card details in a very safe manner but that they had to have it to hold the booking and if we didn't attend the class they would only take the payment then. By this time I was getting a bit concerned that we wouldn't be able to get a booking and I eventually sent over the credit card number (not the 3 numbers on the back and not the passport details either). Silly me now I look back and consider myself a real idiot. Anyway went to the cooking class and we loved it. And I must say the cooking school was not involved in the scam. Anyway on return home and checking all my accounts online I realized that the card I had given the details of had been used while I was in Bali. I might add this card was a debit Visa and I had not taken it to Bali with me. So there was no way it should have been used. All the purchases were on the day of the cooking class. Anyway it has taken 5 weeks for my bank to get to the bottom of the whole affair. And what happened is that someone from the tour office had used my card details to pay $486.61 AU of numerous traffic voliations in a varity of Indonesian names. So I expect they sold the credit cards details but whatever all payments were made on the same day which was the day we were taking the cooking class so they knew we would be in Bali that day. I expect they thought that as I would be using the card while in Bali (which I didn't cause it was back in Aussie) I would not notice the transactions. Anyway my advice is never give any of your credit card details out and yes I do know I was very silly to do so. I have learnt my lesson. Thankfully the bank has recovered my money.
