Cash, Travellers Cheques etc - Which?

Hello,

I am going to Bali at the end of August for the first time and wanted some tips on spending/taking money there.

I am travelling from the UK and have seen that a lot of places accept USD? How should I best manage my money?

Should I take some USD with me and then get some IDR out once there? Should I just go with travellers cheques? Or should I not bother and just get cash out when needed using my credit card?

Are the charges at ATM's high when using a credit card?
