I'm a Yank, as the Ozzies like to say, been to Bali twice and headed back in late August for three weeks with my twin brother and a friend. Good advice on the 60 day visa, much cheaper. Stayed 30 days two years ago and it's easy to do it the way that Hammockman has described or you can step it up $5 to $10 a day to see how you like that lifestyle. Didn't see any other Americans on the two other trips, so we're a scarce lot in that neck of the woods. Bali is like the Ozzie's Hawaii, close by, easy to get to and a change of pace.
I've surfed mainland Mexico and can understand why you're leaving for a few months. The temp in Bali will be warm, but not brutally humid like where you're from. Good advice, as many ladies on the forum will relate, is to not take much in the way of clothes and just buy it when you're there, easier to get the right kind of lightweight material for the climate.
If you need any help on the visa, I'm in Los Angeles, let me know.
You'll enjoy it, especially at two months, it's a great experience.
