Yes people may have paid for a cheaper flight but price difference should only reflect on the little luxuries you get with Qantas, Virgin etc luxuries in life that we can all go without during a 3 hour flight.
What you don't expect is to be stranded and held to ransom in Bali by these large International Airlines. I hope the Oz Governement steps in and assists those who are stranded and are without the spare cash to throw around.
Pretty sad affair for those that have spent all the money they had just to get there.
