Paying for Accomm over the net ???

Hi All

Have just booked 9 nights at the Puri Raja in Nov. Very Excited. Have done everything via the internet (1st time, have always used a TA). The hotel has just emailed me requesting a deposit to hold our booking, which is fine, but they just want me to email them my credit card details. There doesn't seem to be any formal process. Is this the norm? What do you suggest?
