someone would actually gloat about how low they could pay who what certainly appeared to be an "absolute gem" who went out of his way to exceed the guests' requirements, then proudly say that they gave a "tip" of Rp.50,000 after a full-day of impeccable service.

The driver was obviously a true gentleman and was prepared to accept "what you think is ok" because at least this gave him the surety of being able to meet his Car Repayments and Petrol.

How would these people feel in their home country if their bosses or clients tried to "beat them down" with respect to remuneration for their services?

As Baldy has written, the days of the Rp.300,000 car are, I feel, numbered, if legislation already in place regarding "vehicles with Pariwisata (tourism) Registration/Licece" being policed "to the letter of the law".

This is not just important to maintain the viability of those companies who have chosen to register their vehicles correctly and operate within the existing laws, but will also provide clients of the "Pariwisata Cars/Buses" with proper and adequate insurance protection.
