in Australia while she is on a tourist visa. However, to lodge the spouse visa application she will have to exit Australia if she has 'No further Stay' on her current visitor visa. The Spouse visa has to be lodged offshore ie Jakarta. She must then also be out of Australia when the visa is granted.
There is a great deal of paperwork involved in applying for either the prospective marriage visa or spouse visa. As Rakini posted they must provide evidence that their relationship is genuine and continuing. The current cost for a spouse visa application is approximately $1400.
Tell your son to download the Partner Migration Booklet off the immigration website. It covers off what sort of things they will need to provide. It is quite involved but managable so long as you prepare your documentation properly.
All documents written in Indonesian must be translated into English by a recognized translator. It is much cheaper to have documents translated in Bali than Australia. Documents such as birth certificates / KK - family card / police clearances etc must be translated.
