Anyone left their accom for a night..

We are staying at Patra and are leaving mid-stay for 1n up in Ubud. Will be keeping room as it is already paid for.
Just wondering, would I let the hotel know we'll be gone for a day and a half or just put the 'do not disturb' sign on the door. Will leave most of our luggage in room, cases padlocked. Would it be safe to leave passports/money in safe or should I take all with me?
Any thoughts from anyone who's done this. Thanks
