Hi,
You will get lots of advice I'm sure!
Keep in mind that the vast majority of members of the BTF love Bali and the views may be a little biased due to this.
Bali is not for everyone, I have come across a few people over the years who hated it, thought it was smelly, dirty and not a paradise!
My son and I love it, my husband has never been and has no intention of ever going there, so we leave him at home once a year and head over by ourselves.
I have found that when you travel with a child or young children you tend to have a different holiday to the drunken aussie yobs you mentioned.
We are usually back in our hotel room by 9-9.30pm and ready for bed after a full day of swimming, shopping and activities.
So we have never really seen the ugly night life that can occur.
We have met some fantastic fellow travelers over the years, always ready for a chat by the pool and ready to help you if you need a hand.
If you are polite and treat others how you wish to be treated it is usually returned to you!
Its all a part of having an enjoyable holiday.
Same is to be said of the locals, they love children and would not upset them and I find if you just say no thankyou they seem to respect this and leave you alone. No need to be abrupt or rude if you dont want to take up the offer of a purchase, a massage,
a taksi.
Again all part of an enjoyable holiday is chatting with the locals.
Areas we enjoy are Tuban and Legian.
This year we will be at Sanur and Ubud also.
Just not so keen on Kuta, too fast and too much hassel for me.
I will be interested to read the other replys you get with different views.I'm Sure they will be varied.
Good luck with your choices.
Regards Helen.
