I booked over the internet with Air Asia. I noted that:

* if Air Asia is selling promotional fares, it is very difficult to get the booking and the site runs very slow

* it takes patience to cycle through all the available dates at three days at a time

* five minutes after making the booking, my bank rang me to ask if I had authorised the transaction as the bank recorded Air Asia transaction as coming from Malaysia

* make sure you allow at least three hours between flights if you are connecting to another Air Asia flight in KL

* before completing the booking make sure that you can take the flights, as Air Asia charges high fares and fees when you change bookings

* there is now no need to pay the additional $A7.00 for an Advance Seat Request Fee to choose a seat. Paying this fee is now unnecessary, as Air Asia now allocates seats at Check In to those passengers who did not pay the fee when booking over the Internet. Thus one of the traditions of Air Asia, the Great Malaysian Foot Race, where passengers sprint to the plane to find a seat has come to an end

* be aware that Air Asia allows 15 kg of checked in luggage from KL to Bali, therefore do not pay for more than 15 kg on the Australia to Kl leg

* there is no visa fee when you arrive in KL and your departure tax is already included in your Air Asia ticket price when leaving KL

* if you have Malaysian Ringgit take it with you as Air Asia exchanges $A at the rate of $A1 = 2 Ringgits and your change is given in Ringgits, this is a poor exchange rate

* do not bother paying 30 Ringgits for the video player as the systems is not fully set up

* Duty Free for alcohol is cheaper in KL than the Gold Coast
