The Bali Street Dog Fund does not normally comment on the BTF but feel we have to after receiving emails from people who are distressed to read that many people on here agree with culling of dogs in Bali.
Unfortunately people who are leaving postings here are somewhat uneducated and totally lack knowledge about how to treat rabies. Killing dogs is not an effective way to rid Bali of rabies, and organisations like WHO (World Health Organisation) WSPA,IFAW,Animal People who are experts in rabies have a sensible plan to tackle this situation but trying to convince the Government to adopt these is a battle in itself.
The system of the dogs being collared and tagged after being vaccinated is not working thanks to the Balinese stealing the collars and tags and putting on their own "unvaccinated dogs" to prevent them from being killed, therefore vaccinated dogs are being killed and unvaccinated wonder around under the guise of being vaccinated.
What people don't realise is that by killing the dogs there is going to be a huge rat explosion on the island. It's not the cats that kill the rats, it's the dogs. Once the plague, typhus and leptospirosis hits Bali I don't see it being a great tourist destination.
