Generally, if you see others parked then it's OK.
A lot of business places reserve the spaces out front, and there are some "no go" areas that are signed one way or another.
Many busy places have parking attendants who will shift motor bikes and stop traffic to let you out (mostly with much theatrical blowing of the compulsory ear piercing whistle)
Put all 1 thousand rupe notes in the ashtray for this purpose, and always give the extra one for the guy or gal.
There are also "pay as you park" areas which are just waste ground used as an earner by the locals (Anywhere between 5 and 20K).
Certainly, I never allow parking restrictions to be a consideration in anywhere I go, as there is always somewhere to park, even at the cost of a few of rupe.
