In the early eighties the best way to get in touch with the world was to queue up at the international phone at the airport on Sunday evenings to get the cheap rate It was never a bother to wait in the queue coz there were plenty of interesting people to meet.
Communications would have to be one of the biggest changes I have noticed apart from the obvious expansion of the tourist strip. The hotels I stay in around Seminyak and Legian I remember exploring rice padis and jungle there!
