Yes you can walk through the monkey forrest but its quite away and I can only imagine how fustrating it would be with a young child and the pesty monkeys trying to steal every thing you were carrying. we stayed at the Kajane which is half way closer again than the Nyuh Kuning in Monkey forrest road I agree with the other posters try to find a hotel closer to the centre of town maybe one without a lot of steps (the kajane is a very nice hotel but has heaps of steps)I agree with Baliebarbie re the Ubud Village Hotel have a look what else is available.
