..do you know what "Dakshina" is, Anada??? In Bali it refers mostly to a special sort of offering. You may have seen them from time to time, a narrow round 'basket' made of dried palm leaves and containing, among other things, a coconut. The original term comes from India and refers to the 'payment'one makes to one's Guru, as gratitude for all you got. This payment never ends. If a musician, for example, earns some money using the material he got from his Guru, it is considered only proper to donate a certain amount as gratitude for gaining the knowledge that caused you to prosper. The Balinese understand this concept very well. My point is, after reading these posts and a failed attempt at reading the now-famous book, I begin to wonder how much Dakshina the authoress has been willing to give her Guru on Bali. Or anywhere else, for that matter. Just a passing thought.
