not sure about the CDMA phones but what you're wanting to do is exactly what we do and it works really well. We have 2 old nokia's which are our "Bali Phones" and then we have our aussie phones. When we get to bali we text our bali number to the people that might need it, we also send all text messages and make all phone calls from the bali phone as it is a lot cheaper.
I've never had any companies ring me but you do get the odd text message saying "welcome to indosat etc....."
