Hi Mark If you have not been back to Bali since then - be ready for HUGE shock. That absolutely glorious Nusa Dua you remember is nothing less than an Asian version of the Gold Coast, especially that strip of beach you are referring to. I know that restaurant and ate there a number of times. That has gone as far as I know, replaced by 4-5 star hotels that resemble nothing of Balinese culture as far as I am concerned. To be honest with you - I have been back to Bali 12 times since 1980 and never been back to Nusa Dua once I saw those enormous buildings along what was once a beautiful beach full of locals with their fishing boats. You know ... all that has gone as well. Will not go over there on principle.
Overall, why keep going to Bali? Because the people are wonderful - they may have become more savvy but they are basically the same humble and friendly people as 21 years ago and I ignore all the other things that detract from how it was.
